Cut to Potter’s B&B. Outside, everyone’s seated for the wedding party.
Inside, Joey runs up to Bessie’s room.
JOEY: Bess, I am so sorry for being…
Joey stops in mid-sentence, as she sees Bessie exit, wearing her wedding gown.
JOEY: Wow! You look beautiful.
Bessie blushes.
BESSIE: I’m nervous beyond belief, though.
JOEY: Don’t be. Everything…everything’s going to be fine.
Mike exits the bathroom, dressed in his tux.
MIKE: Never thought I’d be here to see this.
He kisses Bessie on the cheek.
MIKE: You look great, sweetheart.
BESSIE: Thanks, dad.
They hug.
BESSIE: Let’s get this show on the road. Where’s Pacey with that cake?
Joey pauses.
JOEY: I think he had to run and get something first.
*****
Cut to outside.
Dawson in filming the crowd with his camcorder, making sure to get everyone. Audrey does a little curtsey.
DAWSON: Nice…nice.
He turns around, as footsteps are heard a few feet away.
DAWSON: I see it, but I don’t believe it…
It’s Jen, followed by Charlie, followed by the rest of his band. The entire band is dressed up, with their hair neatly combed.
GUY: I look like a geek.
CHARLIE: Keep reminding yourself that we’re actually getting paid for this.
The guy nods.
DAWSON: Charlie’s band? Are you serious?
JEN: Don’t worry. They can play slow music, too.
CHARLIE: Yeah. I’m not going to turn the wedding march into a rock song or anything.
AUDREY: Aww! Why not?
JEN: Maybe for the reception.
PACEY: (off-screen) Coming through!
Dawson, Jen, Audrey, and Charlie all turn to see Pacey rolling towards them. He has a broken piece of metal pipe in his hand, which he’s using as a ‘break’.
The cart comes to a stop on the grass, letting him jump off.
PACEY: Ta-daa!
DAWSON: Please tell me you didn’t do that on purpose.
PACEY: What do you take me for, Dawson? So I’m accident prone.
Dawson looks at the cake, filming it.
DAWSON: Where’s the bride and groom?
PACEY: I don’t know. Probably in the house still.
DAWSON: No, I mean the bride and groom. The tiny plastic ones that go on the cake.
Pacey stares at the cake, and starts to panic.
PACEY: Must have fallen off.
He drops down to search the grass. At that point, Andie arrives. She’s out of breath, but she has the plastic figures in her left hand.
ANDIE: (panting) You…dropped these…
Pacey takes them, and puts them on the cake.
PACEY: And you wonder why I love this girl?
ANDIE: I gotta go change.
*****
Cut to inside.
Dawson, Jen, and Andie go indoors.
JEN: Natives are getting restless out there?
VOICE: Well, I should imagine so. If you want my opinion, this ceremony should have been years ago.
Jen freezes, and turns to where the voice came from.
There, sitting on the couch, is her grandmother.
JEN: Grams?
Grams stands up, and walks towards her.
GRAMS: Hello, Jennifer. Dawson.
DAWSON: Hey, Mrs. Ryan.
JEN: What’s wrong? What are you doing here?
GRAMS: I was invited, remember?
Jen doesn’t understand.
JEN: But, I thought…what about the treatments? Your cancer…
GRAMS: Is in remission, thank you very much. As of last weekend.
Jen’s mouth hangs open.
GRAMS: I certainly didn’t want to give you the good news over the phone. Especially when you are supposed to be on vacation.
Jen has tears of joy in her eyes, as she runs up and hugs her.
JEN: Thank you.
Dawson films the emotional scene. Andie gives him a warning look.
DAWSON: Sorry. Old habits die hard.
*****
Cut to outside.
A montage of scenes show Mike walking Bessie down the isle, to where Bodie is waiting.
Oooooooooooooooooh
Oooooooooooooooooh
Oooooooooooooooooh
Oooooooooh
Oooooooh
The ceremony begins. Dawson stands at the back, filming the entire thing.
V.O.(Dawson): It’s a good feeling when you realize all these milestones you see in life. Graduation. Weddings. Sometimes it feels like they don’t come fast enough, and others it goes by to fast.
Somewhere over the rainbow Way up high
He focuses the camera to the main wedding party.
PRIEST: You may now kiss the bride.
Bodie and Bessie kiss, as the crowd cheers. Confetti is thrown into the air.
And the
Dreams that you dream of
Once in a lullaby
V.O.(Dawson): When you’re someone like me, it’s hard to explain that you really can’t plan it all ahead of time. That letting these events come to you unexpectedly is part of what makes them so great. I get that now.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dream of
Dreams really do come true.
*****
Cut to later, at the reception. Dawson feels someone pulling at his leg.
He looks down, and sees Lily standing there, with her ‘flower girl’ basket.
LILY: Need more flowers.
Someday I wish upon a star
Wakeup where the clouds are far
Behind me
He smiles.
DAWSON: The ceremony’s over, though.
She frowns.
DAWSON: Come on…let’s get you some.
Where trouble melts like lemondrops
High above the chimney top
That's where
You'll find me
*****
Cut to at one of the tables. Joey sees Dawson and Lily walking away.
JOEY: Excuse me a moment.
She gets up and follows them. Once they arrive near the dock, Joey watches them for a moment.
DAWSON: There you go. Perfect little flower girl.
Somewhere
Over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Lily laughs, and twirls around.
Dawson starts to film her.
DAWSON: There you go. You look like a little princess. Did I ever tell you that?
LILY: No.
DAWSON: Well, I’m telling you now.
She tosses some flowers at Dawson, causing him to laugh.
A few feet away, Joey watches them. A small, kind of sad, smile comes to her face.
And the
Dreams that you dare to
Oh why
Oh why
Can't i
DAWSON: Ok, now go show mommy.
Lily runs off, as Dawson sits down on Joey’s dock, watching the sun start to go down. Joey walks over and sits beside him.
DAWSON: Well?
JOEY: It was perfect.
Well I see tree's of green
And red roses to
I'll watch them bloom for
Me and you
And i think to myself
What a wonderful world
He smiles.
DAWSON: Told you so.
She half-smiles.
JOEY: I don’t know where I see myself in five years.
Dawson looks at her.
Well I see skies of blue
And I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world.
JOEY: I don’t know where I see myself in three years, Dawson. I don’t know about next year. I’ve never been able to see what’s in my future, and let me tell you that I’ve tried so hard to be able to.
DAWSON: How about this, then: what do you want?
JOEY: What does anyone want? A career. A place I belong. A…a family. But, come on, look at the one I already have. But when I think of myself as someone’s mom, I get so scared. I mean, what if I die on them like my own mother did? Or what if I fail them like my dad did. I ask myself ‘how can I risk that’?
She turns to him.
The colours of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also one the faces
Of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying how do you do
They're really saying
I love you
JOEY: But then I see you with your sister, and at how her face lights up whenever you’re around. Not just hers, but yours as well. When that happens, I ask myself: ‘how can I not’?
I hear babies cry
And i watch them grow
They'll learn much more
Then we'll know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Dawson leans over and kisses her. He touches the side of her face.
DAWSON: We don’t have to make any decisions today. It’s enough to know that you’re just as scared as I am.
Joey laughs.
JOEY: Just promise me one thing, Dawson. If there’s ever something that’s bothering you, or if you don’t agree with something I’m doing…don’t be afraid to tell me about it. Don’t fear my reaction, because I just want you to be honest with me.
DAWSON: Deal.
They turn to watch the sun set.
Someday I wish upon a star
Wakeup where the clouds are far
Behind me
Where trouble melts like lemondrops
High above the chimney top
That's where
You'll find me
Oh somewhere
Over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dare to
Why oh why can't I
DAWSON: Oh, and if we ever move in together…I’m doing all the driving.
Joey laughs.
JOEY: Deal.
Ooooooooooooooooooh
Ooooooooooooooooooh
Oooooooh
Oooooooooh
