Cut to Worthington University.
On top of the lookout tower, a familiar couple lay on a blanket, kissing. A portable telescope is placed a few feet away, along with a small picnic basket.
After a moment, they break off the kiss.
JOEY: Brrr…
Joey shivers.
JOEY: Why on earth did I wear a tank top in this weather?
Dawson doesn’t answer. Instead, he starts to kiss her neck. Joey smiles.
JOEY: Oh yeah…that’s why.
They kiss again.
DAWSON: Mmmm…we should do this more often.
Suddenly, they see a flash in the sky.
JOEY: What was that?
The two of them scramble off the blanket hurry over to the telescope. Joey looks through it.
We see what she’s seeing: a shooting star. An orange and yellow burst of light streaking across the sky.
JOEY: (whispers) Wow…take a look.
Dawson does, and grins.
DAWSON: That’s really something, isn’t it?
They go back to the blanket and lay down, side by side, staring up at the sky.
JOEY: I’m going to the publisher’s tomorrow.
DAWSON: It’s done?
JOEY: No. I’ve still got three chapters to go, but Hetson suggested I try to sell it with what I’ve got so far. Can you imagine what it’d be like if it got published?
DAWSON: I’m getting goose bumps just picturing your name on the front of a hardcover.
Joey turns to him and half-smiles.
JOEY: I’d be happy with a paperback. Heck, I’d be happy with a magazine article.
DAWSON: You’re blow them away.
She sighs.
JOEY: I wish I shared your confidence in me.
They roll on their sides, so that the two of them are facing each other. Joey leans her head against his.
DAWSON: (quietly) You’ll do great.
They kiss again.
They break off the kiss.
DAWSON: Just try not to be too late for Andie’s party.
Joey raises her eyebrows.
JOEY: That’s tomorrow?
DAWSON: Yeah. Don’t tell her, though…it’s a surprise.
JOEY: My lips are sealed.
Dawson smirks, then starts to suck on her bottom lip.
DAWSON: Not completely sealed, I hope.
Joey giggles.
