Cut to Dawson’s room, up in the attic. Pacey is sitting on the bed, watching television. After a moment, Joey comes in.
JOEY: Dawson?
PACEY: Sorry, Jo…not here.
She sighs, and then sits down on the bed.
JOEY: What you watching?
PACEY: The O.C.
She snickers.
PACEY: What? WHAT? What’s wrong with the O.C.?
JOEY: Nothing. Nothing…just not something I’d expect you to watch.
PACEY: I’ll have you know, Josephine, that I am a very choosy individual when it comes to program viewing. I just happen to relate to Seth.
She raises an eyebrow.
JOEY: How so?
He points to the camera.
PACEY: Look at the guy. He’s not exactly popular, but he manages. Spends his free time reading comic books, has a witty sense of humour…that’s me all the way. Unlike me, he has it easy. Seth was the guy I wanted to be back in high school. He’s got a nice house, great parents, too girls fighting over him…
JOEY: So basically he’s you living Dawson’s life.
Pacey thinks for a moment.
PACEY: You may be onto something there, Potter.
Joey shakes her head.
JOEY: Your unbelievable, you know that Pacey? Everyone always says ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’, right?
PACEY: No philosophy right now, I just ate.
She sighs.
JOEY: Do you really think your life would be that much easier if you and Dawson’s places were reversed?
PACEY: Well, duh! Of course it would. The guy’s my best friend, but let’s face it…he has it easy. He has always had it easy.
She half-smiles.
PACEY: What, you don’t think so?
JOEY: I know better.
PACEY: Whatever.
Pacey goes back to watching the show, ignoring Joey.
JOEY: Your life’s really not that bad, Pace. Pacey? Hello, Pacey…?
Suddenly, the camera goes up close to Pacey’s face. When this happens, the scene around him shifts into something else.
ANDIE: Pacey?
We see that Pacey is now in what looks like Dawson’s room. Only the posters and film memorabilia are missing.
PACEY: Yeah?
Andie puts on her jacket, getting ready to leave out the window.
ANDIE: I’ve gotta head out now.
He looks at her.
PACEY: Come on…stay over.
She sighs.
ANDIE: I can’t, Pacey.
PACEY: Why not?
ANDIE: Look…what’s tomorrow?
He shrugs.
PACEY: Monday?
She shakes her head.
ANDIE: No, I mean what specifically happens tomorrow?
Pacey groans.
PACEY: Simple. We get thrown back to the bottom rung of the social chain by starting high school.
ANDIE: Bingo. Now, sleeping in the same bed as you might have been acceptable when we were kids, but we’re fifteen now. I’m a grown woman, and you have a…you know?
He raises an eyebrow.
PACEY: At what point didn’t I have a ‘you know’?
ANDIE: Never mind. The point is we can’t keep doing this.
Pacey grins.
PACEY: Why? You got the hots for me or something?
Andie starts to laugh.
ANDIE: Me attracted to you? Yeah, like that will ever happen?
PACEY: So? Problem solved then, right?
She shakes her head.
ANDIE: I don’t think it’s that simple.
PACEY: Of course it is. We’re friends, ok Andie? No matter how many hormones I get. All right? So, you staying or not?
She seems unsure for a moment, and then smiles.
Andie climbs into bed next to him, before the light turns out.
ANDIE: Night.
PACEY: Night.
After a moment, Pacey starts to squirm.
PACEY: Why the hell did you have to bring this up?
