Cut to outside Worthington.
Joey is wandering outside the building. Out of nowhere, Pacey runs up to her.
PACEY: Joey! You gotta help me…
She gives him an angry look.
JOEY: Give me one reason why I shouldn’t kick your ass right here?
He sighs.
PACEY: I didn’t want to hurt her, Jo…I didn’t want to hurt anyone.
JOEY: Well, you did.
PACEY: Where’s Andie? At least tell me that much.
JOEY: Up in my room, and you can forget about it! She doesn’t want to see you!
Pacey’s heart sinks.
JOEY: If you’re lucky, you might be able to track down my roommate. Who knows…you might be able to salvage something from this if you’re lucky.
PACEY: I have to see her!
JOEY: Sorry, Pace…you blew it!
She heads towards the door, leaving Pacey standing there.
*****
Cut to Dawson’s room. Dawson hears a rock hit the window from the outside. Curiously, he opens it.
Standing on the lawn is Pacey.
PACEY: Dawson?
DAWSON: What’s wrong?
Pacey takes a deep breath.
PACEY: I need your help.
*****
Cut to the Mad Cat Playhouse. Audrey runs inside, crying.
From one of the back rooms, Chris hears her come in. Quickly, he runs out to see her.
CHRIS: What is it? What’s wrong?
AUDREY: (sniffs) Just leave me alone, Chris!
He walks up to her.
CHRIS: Sorry. Can’t do that.
AUDREY: It’s Pacey. He…
Chris looks concerned.
CHRIS: What? What did he do?
She shakes her head.
CHRIS: What?
AUDREY: I was wrong about him. I just thought…god, why am I so stupid?
CHRIS: You’re not!
He puts his hands on her shoulders.
CHRIS: Look, he’s not worth it. If he can’t see what a beautiful, wonderful person you are, he’s not worth it!
Audrey looks him in the eyes.
Without warning, Chris kisses her. A moment later, they break it off.
Audrey stares at him, completely shocked.
*****
Cut to outside Worthington. Pacey approaches the building like an man on a mission.
Behind him, Dawson follows along.
DAWSON: How to we get past Joey?
PACEY: Can you convince her to let us in?
DAWSON: No chance in hell! What’s plan B?
PACEY: Working on it.
Pacey looks up at Joey’s window. A small smile appears on his face.
PACEY: Bingo!
DAWSON: What?
PACEY: I’ll be right back!
Pacey runs off, leaving Dawson confused.
*****
Meanwhile, inside…
JOEY: How you feeling?
Sitting on the bed, Andie looks up at her.
ANDIE: (quietly) Horrible.
Joey sits next to her, putting her hand on Andie’s shoulder.
JOEY: It’ll be ok. I promise.
Joey smiles at her, but Andie still seems depressed.
ANDIE: I was hoping Audrey would be back by now. I really want to apologize to her.
JOEY: You don’t have to apologize. It’s Pacey’s fault, not yours.
Andie sighs.
ANDIE: It’s my fault, Joey. My fault for not letting go.
*****
At that moment, in the hallway…
Pacey and Dawson peer around the corner, being careful not to be seen. Slowly, they wander down the hallway.
Pacey is now wearing a brown hat, and carrying a cane. Slung over his shoulder is a duffel bag.
DAWSON: Where’d you get that stuff?
PACEY: Drama room. Relax, I’ll bring it back when I’m done.
DAWSON: What’s in the bag?
PACEY: It’s a surprise.
DAWSON: You actually think you’ll sneak past Joey dressed as Charlie Chaplin?
Pacey chuckles.
PACEY: One, I’m not supposed to be Chaplin! Two, I have no intention of sneaking past Joey. Three…I’m taking a page from your book, Dawson. Follow me.
They duck into the stairwell. On it is a sign that says ‘roof’.
*****
Back in Joey’s room…
JOEY: Wow! I mean…I didn’t know.
Andie nods.
ANDIE: You probably think I’m an idiot, right?
JOEY: No! Andie, I don’t think you’re an idiot. It’s just that…all this time?
She sniffs.
ANDIE: When I first saw the two of you together, it really hurt Joey. It was enough to make me wish I were still crazy.
JOEY: Why didn’t you ever say anything?
Andie forces herself to laugh.
ANDIE: You mean like Dawson did? And have everyone look at me like some pathetic girl who couldn’t let go? I think…I think that’s why I stayed in Europe for so long. I couldn’t stand to be that close to him if…if he didn’t love me back.
JOEY: (quietly) I’m so sorry.
She closes her eyes.
ANDIE: I am, too.
*****
And on the roof…
Pacey unzips the bag, letting Dawson see what’s inside.
Dawson’s eyes go wide.
DAWSON: You’re crazy!
Pacey grins.
PACEY: Think it’ll work?
DAWSON: It might, but you’re still crazy, Pace. You’re gonna get hurt.
Pacey sighs.
PACEY: Maybe, but if she talks to me, it’ll be worth it. Here…help me with this thing…
*****
And back inside…
ANDIE: For a moment, I just thought that maybe he still felt the same way I did. That what happened with you and him and with him and Audrey wasn’t serious. I just…I hoped.
JOEY: All this time? Andie, you haven’t been together for five years…
Joey suddenly stops herself. She laughs at the irony.
ANDIE: What?
JOEY: Nothing.
ANDIE: Oh, who am I kidding? I just…I still love him. I always will, even if he…
At that precise moment, something sails across the window.
When I wake up
Well I know I'm gonna be
Andie gasps.
I'm gonna be the man
Who wakes up next to you
Joey stares at her, perplexed.
JOEY: Andie? What is it?
He sails past the window again. Andie’s eyes go wide, as a large smile appears on her face.
When I go out
Yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man
Who goes along with you
ANDIE: Oh my god!
Joey spins around to see what she’s looking at.
If I get drunk
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man
Who gets drunk next to you
Sure enough, Pacey swings across the window again. He’s suspended from the room by a wooden swing, hung from two chains. He’s using the cane to propel himself from side to side.
And if I haver
Yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man
Who's havering to you
Then they hear a voice above.
DAWSON: Pacey, stop swinging around! I don’t think this thing is that strong!
Pacey smirks at Andie. He then tips his hat to her.
But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man
Who walked a 1000 miles
Then fall down at your door
Squealing, Andie runs across the room, and flings the window open.
PACEY: So, tell me, ‘Joon’…you forgive me?
When I'm working
Yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man
Who's working hard for you
She smiles, as she leans out the window.
ANDIE: You…you…ohhhhh!
And when the money
Comes in for the work I do
I'll pass almost every penny on to you
He grins.
Joey peeks her head out the window as well, looking towards the room. She sees Dawson up there, who waves at her playfully. He laughs.
JOEY: Oh lord…
When I come home
Oh I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man
Who comes back home to you
Pacey’s face softens, as he gazes at Andie.
PACEY: (quietly) I’m sorry. I love you.
And if I grow old
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man
Who's growing old with you
Andie reaches over to kiss him…
…just as the chain breaks.
PACEY: Ahhh!
Pacey plummets downwards, falling into a bush below. Andie screams.
But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
ANDIE: Oh god! Pacey!?!
Just to be the man
Who walked a 1000 miles
Then fall down at your door
Dawson cringes.
DAWSON: Ouch!
A moment later, Pacey stumbles out of the bush. He’s limping.

PACEY: I’m okay! I’m okay!
Dawson sighs in relief.
DAWSON: (yelling) He’s okay!
Andie smiles. Then, without warning, she runs out of the room. Joey follows after her.

Dawson does the same, heading towards the stairs.
*****
Andie finally arrives outside, running across the lawn to where Pacey is. He’s limping.
ANDIE: Are you all right?
When I'm lonely
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man
Whose lonely without you
Pacey scoffs.
PACEY: Twisted my ankle, but it was worth it to see your reaction.
When I'm dreaming
Well I know I'm gonna dream
I'm gonna Dream about the time when I'm with you
She grins.
ANDIE: I thought you hated this movie!
When I go out
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man
Who goes along with you
PACEY: Well, it does have its perks.
Pacey wraps his arms around Andie and kisses her.
And when I come home
Yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man
Who comes back home with you
I'm gonna be the man
who's coming home with you
But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man

Back inside, Joey wanders out in the hallway. As she nears the stairs, Dawson exits to meet her.
DAWSON: So, how was your trip?

Joey half-smiles.
JOEY: Why do I sense your hand in this?
Dawson shrugs.
DAWSON: I can’t take the credit for this one. Completely Pacey’s idea. Surprised?

JOEY: A little. I just never imagined him doing something like this.
DAWSON: Well, sometimes you just need the right person to bring out the romantic in you.
She smirks at him.
JOEY: Wanna go see if he needs medical aid?
DAWSON: Nah. Something tells me they’d like to be alone right now.

The two of them head back towards Joey’s room.
DAWSON: So, you like ‘Benny & Joon’?
JOEY: It’s okay. But when it comes to Mary Stuart Masterson, I’m more a ‘Some Kind Of Wonderful’ fan.
Dawson chuckles.
DAWSON: What a shocker.
JOEY: Oh, shut up!

*****
Cut to back outside. Pacey and Andie are still kissing.
Finally, they break apart.
ANDIE: (whispering) I love you…
He smiles.
PACEY: (whispering) The feeling is definitely mutual, McPhee.
They kiss passionately, holding each other, as the camera pans up.
And I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man
Who walked a 1000 miles
Then fall down at your door
Fade to black
